The best things in life are actually really expensive. Success is just failure that hasn’t happened yet. If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. Then quit. No use being a damn fool about it. Eagles may soar, but weasels don’t get sucked into jet engines. Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I’m not sure about the universe. I am free of all prejudice. I hate everyone equally. I do not want people to be very agreeable, as it saves me the trouble of liking them a great deal. Everything happens for a reason. Sometimes the reason is you’re stupid and make bad decisions. Everyone has a purpose in life. Perhaps yours is watching television. Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment. I’ve developed a new philosophy. I only dread one day at a time.

PAU Infantry Test

Having recently based a platoon of PAU Infantry from Ground Zero Games, I figured I should do something productive and carry out a couple paint tests to determine what the force will look like.

I was initially thinking I’d do something akin to a (very) simplified DPM. The end result was the bloke on the left, and I decided it was a no go.

The middle fellow turned out just a bit too dark and the camo hard to make out. This was caused by using Army Painter’s strong tone followed a green and brown camo that wasn’t vivid enough. Still, I liked the direction things were going in, so decided to lighten things up a bit and have another go.

The rightmost model was base coated in AK APC interior, with the rifle, helmet and ruck done in Vallejo Cam Lt Green. Boots and gloves are some random Vallejo very dark green I grabbed from the paint pile 😛.

Army Painter soft tone was then applied to the figure, and some ghetto highlighting done using the original colours.

The camo dots are Vallejo cavalry brown and AK Russian uniform lights. This time, I chose colours that would stand out after drying.

In the end, I think it’s an okay representation of a camo pattern for 15mm, and- most importantly- the entire paint scheme is simplistic enough that I can probably get the platoon done up in a few nights.
